Whats the right IPD Plenum for your Porsche?

Introduction:

When optimizing your Porsche's performance, upgrading the intake system can be a game-changer. One of the most popular and effective enhancements is the IPD (Innovative Pro Design) Plenum. Designed to maximize airflow and improve engine efficiency, selecting the right IPD Plenum tailored to your Porsche can make a substantial difference in both power and driving experience. In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of choosing the perfect IPD Plenum to unlock your Porsche's true potential and see which model is the right fit for your needs.

  1. Understanding the IPD Plenum:

The IPD Plenum is an intelligently engineered performance part that replaces the stock intake manifold on your Porsche. Its unique design features larger and smoother intake runners, which facilitate a more efficient and uniform flow of air into the engine. This enhanced airflow leads to improved throttle response, increased horsepower, and enhanced torque, elevating your Porsche's overall performance to new heights. So in simple terms will help your car breathe much better and be less restrictive to maximize your engine's true potential.

Porsche utilizes a Plastic "T" Style Plenum, while IPD utilizes Aluminum and more superior "Y" Style Design to maximize performance and efficiency.

  1. Identifying Your Porsche Model:

Before diving into the selection process, it's essential to identify your Porsche model correctly. IPD offers plenums designed for various Porsche models, including 911, Boxster, Cayman, and Cayenne. Each model has specific engine configurations, and having this information at hand will ensure you pick the right IPD Plenum compatible with your Porsche and will guarantee the most power enhancements.

  1. Considering Your Performance Goals:

Understanding your performance objectives is crucial in choosing the ideal IPD Plenum for your Porsche. IPD offers two main plenum options: the Standard IP and the "Competition". The Competition Plenum is designed to utilize the next larger throttle body size than what was originally equipped. There are two scenarios for going with the Competition option with the larger throttle body is to firstly unleash the unrealized potential gains from the factory-restricted engine by allowing it to breathe more effectively with having a throttle body size that is properly sized with the potential and capacity of that engine can produce. So taking this into consideration of your current mods and plans for future mods will help you get the best idea of which is best suited for your applications!

Porsche has been known for decades to control engine outputs by instilling restrictive or choking the inlet track by utilizing smaller throttle bodies. Why do they do this? The answer is simple. To prevent lower-level models from being close in power or even outperforming certain of their flagship models.

The second reason for upgrading to an IPD competition is to take advantage of the larger throttle body that will allow your Porsche engine to breathe even more effectively if you are truly looking to maximize your engine's full potential or as a way to prevent bottlenecking if you have other performance upgrades such as free-flowing exhaust or aftermarket intake.

The competition series is tailored towards driving enthusiasts with aftermarket engine upgrades. The factory throttle body might be sufficient for stock engines but modified engines will cause a bottleneck and withhold the car from producing its maximum output and from unlocking its full potential.

IPD offers two configurations, one being the 68mm to 74mm upgraded throttle body. The second is the 74mm to 82mm, being the most popular size.

Buts let's dive into the nitty gritty differences between the both.

IPD Plenums already produce a substantial power and torque increase compared to the factory through improved efficiency but they deliver even greater performance gains when paired with a larger and more optimized throttle body that has been paired with a high-performance free-flowing exhaust. An improved inhale and an Improved exhale combined will increase the overall performance of your Porsche.

4. Turbo vs Naturally Aspirated Engines Gains

All IPD plenums deliver substantial gains with both turbo and naturally aspirated engines, but the turbo produces more total power than the naturally aspirated plenum. But this is due to the fact that the turbo engines produce considerably more power from the factory. The percentage gains from both applications are very similar from 8% to 10% depending on each of the specific models and whether or not they utilize a larger throttle body.

For example, A 997 Porsche Carrera S with a factory 47mm throttle body and our IPD plenum will provide an additional 25 HP gain on an engine that produces 302 HP will yield a power gain of 8.28%.

Whereas, a 997.1 Turbo with our IPD Plenum with the factory 47mm throttle body will deliver an additional 35 HP gain on an engine that produces 408 HP will yield a power gain of 8.57%.

  1. Researching Customer Reviews and Testimonials:

To get a real-world perspective on the IPD Plenum's performance, don't just take our word for how great IPD Plenums are but delve into the readily available customer reviews and testimonials online whether it be from forums or youtube videos!
